Biography
My name is Baey Shi Chen (韦诗倩) and I am a lecturer at the Department of Communications and New Media at the National University of Singapore. I specialise in Cultural Studies, Visual Cultures, as well as Media and Communications.
I hold a joint PhD from National University of Singapore and King’s College London. My research explores the development of Singapore’s fashion industry with particular emphasis on sustainability, social equity, and the industry’s intersection with policy and urban futures. I am also interested in literary and popular culture studies.
Trained as an English major, I earned a Bachelor’s degree in the discipline, followed by a Post-Graduate Diploma in Education from the National Institute of Education and a Master’s degree in Literary Studies from the National University of Singapore.
Before transitioning into academia, I taught at pre-tertiary and tertiary levels across a range of institutions. I also have experience in fashion journalism, and contributed to local publications in both full-time and freelance roles.
